Gauge or Scale?

Posted by admin on September 30th, 2010 and filed under Toys & Games | No Comments »

I was checking out some information about toy train models online and managed to read something on the FAQ portion. I just realized that a scale and a gauge are two different things. Scale is the ratio of the model or miniature model to the size of the original locomotive or train. Imagine 1 is to 48, how big is the difference it would have? From a laymens perspective that would be nothing but for the trains o scale hobbyist, surely they have an idea. On the other hand the gauge refers to the width between the rails. Trains o scale is one that will be hard to find these days; they must be tagged as a collectors item already.

Santa Fe Flyer from Williams – The Super Chief

Posted by admin on September 12th, 2010 and filed under Toys & Games | No Comments »

The Williams Santa Fe Flyer is undoubtedly modeled after the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Super Chief which ran between Chicago, IL and Los Angeles, CA from 1936 to 1971. The line originally followed the old Santa Fe Trail and later was extended to Los Angeles, crossing the Continental Divide at its lowest point. The Super Chief were the first diesel powered, all Pullman, sleeping car trains and set the standard for luxury and speed. First running only once a week, they eventually carried passengers daily across the US, helping to establish Los Angeles as a major west coast city. Travel time was about 40 hours. Sporting the war bonnet paint scheme, which came to be one of the most recognizable product logos of the time, the Santa Fe Flyer was a cultural icon. Celebrities and politicians graced the passenger lists as service became the hallmark of the line, thus its nickname, The Train of The Stars. Go to Trains O Scale now to view and purchase this lovingly crafted replica of the Super Chief (a.k.a. Santa Fe Flyer), along with other popular O scale Williams trains.
