I paint Buddha art out of my head and memory if I am using a brush. I do this because painting for me is a act of channeling, meaning: whether I am painting live at a loud club surrounded by debauchery or the privacy of my home it is the same. I must become the eye of storm complete focus. Sometimes at a club when I am painting I am so very focused, but this does not mean that I can ignore the people that are trying to talk to me. This means that I must become self aware of the split in my subconscious mind and my conscious mind. Let my conscious mind do the talking and I have to let my subconscious mind do the painting. It is very rare if I am “in the moment” painting and someone talks to me that I stop painting, I talk and paint at the same time. Often I am asked “how can you paint in these conditions, loud music and such?”
Without getting too deep, I just tell them “practice”. I enjoy painting him from memory because I am painting the image of him within my own minds eye. I am painting my own personal inner Buddha that only I can see. But after it is painted all can see. The only time I will use reference for a Buddha painting is when it is for a specific picture a client wants me to paint.

A Calgary Garden is about the seasons. Gardeners in Calgary should make the most of each season and appreciate what it can do for their Calgary Garden.
Passion is a word that could define a Calgary Gardener
It always seems like summer goes by so fast and there is not a lot of time to truly enjoy Gardens in Calgary. As a Gardener myself, in the Calgary area, I like to spend as much time in my garden as possible, weather permitting.
The some times drawn out but mild Calgary winters are for reflection. Once should pay attentions to ambitions and desires during the off season.
Spring is a time to enjoy your Calgary Garden.
The new textures and colors that haven’t been seen in months make it just that much better in the spring time for most Calgary Gardeners.
Ecosystems come alive as vibrant colors re-emerge with only a small number of Garden plants.
It’s amazing how even your pets will scramble around with more energy as the dawning of spring becomes apparent.
Oh yes, spring. It is a wonderful thing.
A gardener friend of mine once told me that winter was invented so gardeners can decide what they want to do next spring. I believe it.
The Gardening season in Calgary is usually about half the year. When winter finally takes her icy grasp, gardeners have taken accustom to a weather pattern called a Chinook.
Chinooks are good in the sense they save the people of Calgary really cold winters, but they are bad for Calgary Gardens. Plants in a typical Calgary Garden will get tricked into thinking that it is summer before being hit by really cold spells. This can be no good for plants in any Calgary Garden.
Another issue can be caused by Calgary Chinooks. Warm blowing air from these Calgary Chinooks can cause your plants in your Calgary Garden to lose moisture.
Cedars are one particular Calgary garden plant that should be wrapped with burlap if you want any hope whatsoever of survival.
After all these precautions, spring arrives once again completing yet another cycle.
The cycle is complete, and we move into yet another year.
Time sure goes fast!
I have been Gardening in Calgary for many years and have learned to love all the weather has to offer. This even includes winter and her damaging Chinook.
We must all celebrate and enjoy the off season so that we can get back to the basics and have fun designing the Calgary Garden space for the next coming season.
On the other hand, it might makes some sense to invest in some indoor plants to help with your inspirations.
Happy Gardening!

Calgary is know more long, but mild winters, so one should pay attention to the ambitions and plan for your garden. Reflection is what winter time is for.
Spring is a time to enjoy your Calgary Garden.
Every year, the lilacs give off a sweet scent in many Calgary Gardens during the spring. Spring also makes me see Nectar being nourished by a passing bee in a Calgary garden.
Ecosystems come alive as vibrant colors re-emerge with only a small number of Garden plants.
Your pets suddenly have more energy as you let them outside to play around the garden, on a warm spring day in Calgary.
Oh yes, spring. It is a wonderful thing.
I am convinced that Mother Winter has one purpose; to allow Calgary Gardeners to plan for the next season.
In Calgary, the gardening season is about six months at most. When the cold finally comes around, the people of Calgary have gotten used to a phenomenon known as a Chinook
Chinooks are famous for their warming conditions. For some people this is good, but for Calgary Gardeners it means damage to plants and gardens. The precious dormant plants can sometimes be tricked into thinking that it is spring even going so far as starting new tender growth, which can be lethal when the next winter storm hits.
As well, with all of this, Chinooks cause plants to dry out. The warm blowing air quickly can remove an insulating blanket of snow and dry things out pretty quickly.
Cedars are one particular Calgary garden plant that should be wrapped with burlap if you want any hope whatsoever of survival.
After all these precautions, spring arrives once again completing yet another cycle.
The newly formed plants again have life, completing the cycle of another year.
Oh how the time flies!
As a Calgary Gardener, I have learned like all seasons. This includes Winter and the so called dreaded Chinook.
Calgary Gardeners rejoice and have a good winter to relax, reconnect and enjoy planning your garden space for next summer.
Or maybe if it is winter, get some indoor plants and create an indoor Calgary Garden!
Happy Gardening!

My kids were undertaking a project on different musical instruments at college. The end result with this project was a show given by pupils and their families of numerous varieties of musical instruments. As the accordion is just not extensively performed I volunteered to show the instrument.
The accordion lessons I had discovered online had offered me a strong basis and allowed me to advance to playing familiar tunes. The accordion is a superb instrument to perform on your own as it can be effectively a one-man band, with the tune being performed using the keyboard plus the backing sound made with the buttons. It’s also pretty effortless to generate a acceptable sound as soon as you’ve mastered the basic techniques. For this valid reason I absolutely suggest these accordion lessons in order to learn how to play the accordion.

A xeriscape is a garden that preserves beauty but minimizes water at the same time. The climate in Calgary is semi desert, so xeriscapes are a hot topic in our region.
The term xeriscape comes from the Greek word xeros meaning dry. The word first came into use in Denver Colorado in 1971 because of sky rocketing water bills and studies on shortages in waters
These are the the seven main concepts of xeriscaping.
1) Refined designing
Xeriscaping is quite easy to understand. All you need to do is to ensure that the layout of the plants is such that it meets their watering requirement but not at the expense of the bills
One thing that you need to make sure while xeriscape gardening is that the plants with similar water needs are grouped together.
Here is another suggestion if you opt for irrigating your garden, group the plants with low water requirements in the “below zone” to those that the group of plant that have higher need for water.
2) Is Turf really necessary?
Have you ever noticed how it seems that the turf is covering most of the garden area and needs much more water than any plant? And moreover you need to constantly mow your garden to keep it in turf in control. So why not go for a rock garden instead?)
3) Consider planting water with lower water needs
Many native plants to the Calgary area have high drought tolerance anyways. Use them! Some suggestions.
Potentilla, pygmy caragana, mugho pine, sea buckthorn, many species of juniper. Trees such as russian olive, tree lilac, and pines.
Some good perennials include succulents, grey or silver leafed plants, rock garden plants, and spring bulbs. Also, there are quite a few annual flowers that can be used as well
4) Your irrigation has to be set up efficiently
Perhaps the biggest pet peave for most Calgary gardeners is water wasters. Driving by someone’s house and seeing half of their sprinkler system on the road.
One of the biggest enemies of an overhead sprinkler is evaporation. Almost 50% of waterloss is due to overhead sprinklers. Drip is a good way to mitigate this issue.
If you do have to use overhead watering in your Calgary Gardens, do so early in the morning.
5) Mulch is very effective in your garden as well.
Mulch in Calgary gardens can reduce evaporation and keep soils moist longer. Use about 2 – 3 inches in your garden. Make sure you do not drown out perennials.
6) Amend your garden soil.
Sometimes it happens that the garden soil is either a stone/sandy loam or clay. This results in really quick or really slow drainage of water. Using compost, leaf mould and peat moss will help out in soil conditions like this.
7)Maintaining your garden
It is very important that you take proper care of your garden. This can be achieved by weeding regularly, keeping proper mulch level, and efficient irrigation systems. Once you have attended to this then you will find your garden water efficient.
In summary, Xeriscaping is just a smart way to use water. Calgary has been fortunate over the last few years to have such a vast expanse of water resources available.
This is going to change very quickly. Implementing some of these tactics today will allow you to be ahead of the game tomorrow.
Water conservation by laws are being passed everyday that will make these ideas essential in the next decade.
As time goes by drip irrigation will become the right choice vs. spray heads
But don’t worry, have fun!!

Building a new home in Calgary? Having a new home also means thinking about what to do with your yard.
The first place to start is with a Calgary Landscape Design.
The climate in Calgary is extremely dry as we are classified semi dessert, and backyard landscapes should be designed knowing these types of things. You are going to want to plan a landscape that is low maintenance and has plants that are suited to the environment.
What does a low maintenance Landscape design in Calgary entail?
Of course, nobody likes the idea of spending the whole morning mowing the front lawn. The size of your lawn and amount of care you are willing to give for maintaining your lawn important considerations for your new yard.
Lack of grass can be a good thing as well, because it makes room for other landscape elements in your design.
Another thing to think about in your Calgary Landscape design is to design plants that are hardy to your yard. This will increase your survival rate a tonne.
If you are the adventurous type, don’t be afraid to experiment in your landscape designs with out of zone plants as well. Just don’t be upset if something doesn’t work out.
Ask yourself some of these questions while having a Calgary Landscape underway.
Style is the first thing to question. By taking a quick walk around your neighborhood, you can really get a feel for what will work for you.
Focal Points? Focal points such as that maple tree in the middle of your yard can be of great value to a landscape design.
Do not limit yourself with pre existing focal points. Our Landscape Designs have an array of great ideas that could be the crowning jewel of your garden. A gazebo beside a fish pond would look fantastic. Or, how do you like the idea of a four-tier cascading fountain beside the evergreens? Wow, that is a heavenly sight to behold.
Next, what about the over-all structure of the yard? All the structural elements such as hardscapes, softscapes, and focal points should blend together with each other and in a harmonious relationship with the pre existing Calgary surroundings.
This is our ultimate goal in designing your dream yard.
Other aspect such as harmony, balance, texture, colors, smells and form are extremely important and will be saved for another article.
Good luck with your Calgary Landscape Design. May your yard be a source of your endless pride and joy.
